Mom Inday defends Claudine Barretto against her daughter Gretchen.

Mom Inday publicly stated through Ricky Lo by the Philippine Star on Wednesday that Gretchen is a liar.

“You are a liar!” she blurted out with regards to the accusations that she believes Gretchen is telling the public about Claudine.

According to her, it is not true that Claudine is against her niece, Julia Barretto, in entering showbiz.

“Who did Claudine say it to… you? Or did you just make this up to put Claudine in trouble with Star Magic and make Julia’s big following angry with Claudine? You did that before. Besides, Julia is very much ‘in’ at Star Magic now.”

“Why would she? Next to Marjorie, no one can love those children (referring to Marjorie’s kids) more than Claudine!!! There is a track record to that. At hindi isang kagaya mo lang ang maka-manipulate niyan. Huwag mo naman gawing tanga ‘yung mga tao, Gretchen. They and we all know that ‘Claudine holds no power over the industry!’ Who do you think Claudine is? the Evil Queen of Bhutan?”

She also insisted that Claudine never affirmed that she is the “Prinsesa ng Teleserye” of the Kapamilya network.

“Did she tell you that or did you make it up again to block her entry to an ABS-CBN project? First of all, Claudine was not a Teleserye Princess. She was ABS-CBN Teleserye Queen during her time, just like you were ST Queen during yours. And, hello, showbiz holds no franchise to eternity. Owners and big bosses go to hell, too, or to heaven in time!”

She also admitted that Claudine’s career dropped but it will never change the talent she has.

“Yes, Claudine’s career slowed down but her talent did not! What she holds on ‘record’ for achievement, is ‘not gone’ for how can you lose what you already have in your hand and kept in people’s mind? She doesn’t have to prove anything. Julia and others will fare on their own — never dependent on anyone, comparable to none. They each have a gift from God! Oh yes, Julia is terrific, another good one coming. You are insecure if you believe anyone can block that! For the record, that (your insecurity) can be supported by a well-known doctor.”

Mon Inday further faced the issue about Claudine’s behavior throwing plastic plates and vases, but she confirms that Claudine is not like Gretchen who throws expensive things. More to that, she mentioned that there was a time when Gretchen impatiently told her to leave due to her madness.

“I also witnessed you, Gretchen, ah! When you were throwing expensive plates and vases at that time I was called to go to your place because nagwawala ka and you were threatening to swallow pills. Muntik pa nga akong matamaan kaya I ran out of the house to the car on a Typhoon Signal No. 3, soaking wet. Pinalayas ako!’

Inday also disproves the idea that her youngest daughter, Claudine has a mental illness.

“Claudine has no ‘mental illness’…’mental torture,’ yes, courtesy of an evil manipulation!”

In anger, she told Gretchen that she does not have the right to call Claudine “evil” where in fact she should be pertaining to herself.

“Do not call Claudine evil! Do not start giving away that title that belongs to you and you alone, now that it’s burning your palm and scarring your beautiful face.

Some basher called Julia ‘maarte’ and you blow your top! You call Claudine evil, prepare to attack her and you want me to be angelic?”

“Ang dali-dali n’yo lang manakit ng tao. Power drunk! Pero pag kayo na, konting pitik gusto n’yo na magpakulong. I am taking this fight now in front of the battle. I am going to take all the bullets you shoot. Watch and beware it will ricochet kapagka ina na ang binaril. Stop, please stop. Stop it na, ha!”

According to her, it has been Gretchen’s hobby to ruin and attack the family.

“You have attacked, accused, maligned and tried to destroy each and everyone of us in the eyes of society, starting from your father, I your mother, and each and everyone of your siblings including their partners!”

“People ask and some who do not know any better, might believe that maybe we’re cruel parents, neglectful and remiss in our duties to you! Only, you, alone? Because no one else is complaining about their childhood! How easy for me to have explained my side, but how can a mother defend herself without destroying a child of hers no matter that she is EVIL? Most importantly, I could not in all conscience correct the bad ‘impression’ (image) you gave us. The truth is: This impression is the ‘Deceptive Device’ you used to hook your man and landed you on the moon shining bright like a diamond! I kept mum not wanting to rock your world but you are wrecking ours!”

In the end, though it is hard for a mother to let go even one of her children, she decided to let go of her eldest.

“Gretchen, I am not a wimp, never been one, but lahat may ‘hangganan.’ I have protected you all these years without exposing to the world the real you. But you have pushed many of us to the wall. There’s no other way but for us to defend our names! I have always loved you as one of my own, and always will, but love of my family belongs to the heart and not in the garbage can!”

“I am letting go of a child now who never wanted me in order to save one who has always been there for all, and with all of her love…Claudine!”

Joaquin left a statement on one member of the media on April 24, being on Gretchen’s side against the negative comments of Mom Inday Barretto on an interview.

Mrs. Barretto also defended her youngest daughter regarding the statements of Gretchen against Claudine.

She also mentioned about the the current status of Claudine and her husband Raymart Santiago. She claims that Raymart is no longer living with Claudine and the children.

Joaquin’s side:

Joaquin said that the statement of their mother on one of her interviews with Rickly Lo was indeed “shocking” and “hurtful.”

“But what bothers me most is that while she attacks my sister, Gretchen, and pictures her as evil personified, she seems to have forgotten the truth.” he said.

“Mom, as you have gone out of [your] way to answer the issues that Claudine ought to answer for herself, maybe it is high time to reflect on things and address these concerns as well.

“You have lifted Claudine on a pedestal as the teleserye queen and labelled Gretchen nothing but an ST queen.

“But who took over the role of her parents, worked at the age of 12 and gave up her education to put her siblings to school?

“Who put food on the table, paid for the rent, electricity and hospital bills when dad suffered from his heart condition at least two times?

“Did you ever once stop her from doing all that because you loved her and wanted to protect her just like what you are now doing for Claudine?”

Claudine’s real condition

In his statement, Joaquin mentioned about the “mental illness” issue of Claudine where in fact, the family had the final decision to submit Claudine in a hospital.

“We all know the truth about Claudine’s condition.

“Gretchen never threatened about having her ‘padampot’. Whatever for?

“May I remind you that it was you and dad who had her put in a hospital because you wanted to save her from destroying herself.

“Yes, Claudine is going through rough times. Again.

“And if you truly love her, then you should take concrete steps to save her rather than hitting Gretchen simply because she is standing up to Claudine.”

Stopped taking calls

He also disproves the statement telling the public that Gretchen is telling negative things about Claudine’s children.

He said, “You claimed that Gretchen has been calling Claudine’s children names to her face.

“But how is that ever possible when Gretchen had long stopped taking Claudine’s calls?

“Hasn’t Claudine changed her mobile number many times while still owning many prepaid sim cards as well?”

“On the contrary, it was Claudine who repeatedly said she was going to make an expose.

“On what? We were clueless until bashing began on Instagram, which was why Gretchen came to the rescue of Julia.

“This explains exactly why, as you said, we never complained about our childhood.”

In the end, Joaquin asked her mom to stop saying negative things about Gretchen.

“Your claims of financial support for this family have no basis, because dad always managed to provide. For the record, we may not have been so rich but we were never poor. 1. We live in big beautiful houses 2. Slept in carpeted, air-conditioned rooms, 3. Food galore. 4. Put in an exclusive school. 5. Members of exclusive country clubs. 6. We each have our own yayas, yours even a midwife. 7. Driven by chauffeurs.”

Gia also affirms that it was Claudine who helps the family and not Gretchen.

“No Gretchen, it was not you who helped us during rough spots. It was Claudine. You could not in the life of you convince her that our parents were abusive ones. It was difficult for you to accept that there was somebody who actually had pure intentions of helping where help was needed. You once told me and I quote, ‘I just disappear when things get tough.’ You have become great at these disappearing acts. Claudine made an effort to be there always. Just a few corrections: Claudine paid for my med at UBC just as she paid for a lot of our nieces’ and nephews’ education. She gave them (our nieces and nephews), iPads, iPhones, concert tickets, clothes and so much more. She spoiled all of us not because she needed to but she wanted to. She unlike you, has never equated her value with money or material possessions.”

Meanwhile, Gia believes that their brother, Joaquin is having a dilemma because he works for Gretchen.

“JJ comments on TV are only credible in as far as he is caught between a rock and a hard place, because he is in your employ. It honestly pains me to see that you could put him in this situation. To pick between that and his parents.”

“But in my heart, I know who Gretchen Barretto is. I really love Gretchen. Kung ano ang mga intriga sa kanya, I will be the first one to defend her, because I know her very well,” she said.

Based from the Barretto controversy circulating on different networking sites, it is sad that in the end, no one will win the fight. In an interview with ABS-CBN News on Tuesday, May 7, Atty. Kapunan says “She’s a mother, she’s very upset. She’s not running for any public office precisely because she wants to guard her privacy. She has growing up daughters and ang concern niya is they are in the formative years where they understand. That’s why we are also respecting the media na sana huwag na interviewhin si Marj.”

Atty. Kapunan also asked the public to stop uploading and reposting Marjorie’s racy photos as they should remain within the family and what pictures she may have should remain private.

“Nothing is more valuable than your private reputation, nothing is more valuable than your family, and nothing is more valuable than your children. In the case of Marjorie, she has daughters so she’s appealing – regardless of what the moral judgment on the situation of the parties are concerned – to keep it private,” she said.

Kapamilya rising star Julia Barretto admits she would want to ask some advice from her Tita Claudine especially now that she started to be in “heavy drama.”

The 16-year-old Julia will be in her very first “Maalaala Mo Kaya” episode on Saturday, following her launch as a member of Star Magic Circle 2013 early this year.

Aside from the said MMK episode which is considered to be a “heavy drama,” the young actress also prepares for the Kapamilya series “Cofradia,” wherein she will take on the title role.

Recently, the Barretto clan was in hot water when issues involving Julia’s aunt Claudine was against the sudden fame of her niece.

Despite of the negative issues being thrown to her family, Julia said she had wanted to approach her aunts to seek their advice on acting.

“Especially with what’s going on right now, I wasn’t able to get advice from my titas, but I wish was able to,” she said.

Asked who among her relatives she has been able to talk to since the feud went public, Julia said, “Of course my Tita Gretchen, yes, but Tita Claudine, no. But one day I know they’re all going to be okay again, and I’ll be able to ask questions about acting.”

Julia also was thrilled when asked about the most difficult scene in the episode but she chose not to reveal it for it was the climax of the story.

“I can’t tell so much about it, but I was so nervous to do it because it is a big scene and that’s where the problem ends. So it’s a very heavy scene and it had to look very real, so I had to go deep into my life and make hugot there,” she said.

“I think you go back to an important event in your life that was painful to you in the past. I think you go back to it and try to feel the pain again, so you can feel it again and malabas mo sa acting,” she explains when asked about on where she drew out all the emotions for her heavy scenes.

The beautiful 16-year-old daughter of actress-turned-politician Marjorie Barretto and comedian-turned-politician Dennis Padilla is supposedly doing her big break playing the lead role in the network’s new soap opera ‘Cofradia,’ but was reportedly cancelled due to racism issues.

‘Cofradia’ is a novel by Dominador Ad Castillo. It tells a story of a girl who is afraid to love and co-exist with people surrounding her because of her dark complexion. However, she will eventually transform into a beautiful young lady through the help of a magic candle.

It was first starred by veteran actress Gloria Romero in 1953 and Gina Alajar made a remake of the movie in 1973. Both films were a success in the box office.

ABS-CBN decided not to push through with the project for the reason that it might send a message that real beauty can only be found in people with fair complexion.

Meanwhile, ABS-CBN management is now being set to create another good concept for Julia’s launching drama project.

Recently, the rising Kapamilya actress also gave life to the character of Alex in MMK’s June 15 episode.

Rumors have also spread online that the reasons why Cofradia was cancelled is because of the dismal ratings of Julia Barretto’s “MMK” episode. However, the episode actually posted 35.6% national rating and was the most-watched television program for that day.

Gretchen posted a picture on Monday with long-time partner, businessman Tony Boy Cojuangco, which was captioned: “My tony, aww he loves me.”

This time, an Instagram user bashed her and younger sister Marjorie in the image-sharing site.

An Instagram user using the handle “marjoriekabit” then posted several comments about the picture, which prompted Gretchen to reply.

The two camps were talking about the youngest daughter of Marjorie, Claudia, who is now studying at the British School Manila. It is also the same school which Gretchen’s daughter, Dominique, attended.

As Marjorie’s sister, she immediately came to her defense, rebuking the statement of the Instagram user “marjoriekabit.”

Gretchen said her sister has her own businesses where she gets money to send her children to school.

But the user insisted that Gretchen has been using the money of the Cojuangcos to support Marjorie, adding that even Dominique feels like “you already gave too much for Marj’s family. She even called Marj’s family dependent and parasite.”

In the end, the actress advised, “It is pointless to argue with a mentally ill & drug addict. You go get help, maybe after then ill have the time for you.”

However, the socialite-actress did not expressly identify the name of the person who she believes is behind the Instagram handle.

Some netizens believe that the one behind the anonymous account is Claudine, since the socialite-actress’ comments pertain to facts associated with her youngest sister.

Marjorie hits back at Claudine

Actress-turned-politician Marjorie Barretto rebuked at Claudine Barretto after the latter’s disputed remarks that she no longer considers her sisters as part of the family and it would be better if they change their last name.

Marjorie took on her Instagram account to hit back on her sister’s statement.

“Hurtful! You are the youngest in this family but you treat us all so disrespectfully. From the eldest to the youngest you have never respected us. Enough is enough. I have kept my peace all these time. But this is too much. You have hurt me enough to last a lifetime. You can fool the world and make them believe that we are bad sisters. But you little girl… You cannot fool God. In time… We will be vindicated,” Marjorie said.

She also responded to her sister’s request to change their last name.

“Little girl… who gave you the right to dictate to us… To Me “PALITAN NA RIN NILA ANG APELYIDO NILA” I am a BARRETTO! I am legally allowed to use Barretto. You are the one that is a Santiago now. I was a Barretto even before you were born. You ARE NOT the head of this family. I don’t take orders from you Little girl. I will not take orders from you,” Marjorie added.

The actress also emphasized that she was distressed with her sister’s blackmails and insisted that she won’t let Claudine to her hurt her over again.

“I am removing all power you have on me to hurt me.. I’m tired of your blackmails. You have caused me many many sleepless nights and I have cried too many tears for you. You Little girl… You can not hurt or harm me again. Never again. This is the last time I will cry over you,” says Marjorie who added, “God is watching.”

Claudine’s statement

In a press conference on Tuesday, Claudine once again turned down the accusations thrown to her by her estranged husband Raymart Santiago regarding the use of illegal drugs.

She also declined to leave any comment about her sisters’ involvement in Santiago’s sworn statement.

“No comment, hindi ko sila pamilya. Like I said hindi ko sila pamilya at sana palitan na din nila ang apelyido nila,” Claudine said.

Santiago, on the other hand, specified this alleged drug use in a counter-affidavit in relation to cases filed against him by his estranged wife before the Marikina Regional Trial Court last month.

The 40-year-old actor also insisted that Claudine’s drug use can be supported by evidence.

Actress Gretchen Barretto on Wednesday decisively confirmed hearsay that her younger sister Claudine Barretto underwent confinement due to alleged drug abuse and mental condition.

Gretchen spoke it all after their father, Miguel Barretto requested them to let go of their surname “Barretto” if they are ashamed of it. Her statement confirmed the earlier mentiones in the counter-affidavit of Claudine’s husband, Raymart Santiago, that Claudine is addictive to drugs, in a statement sent exclusively to entertainment portal Pep.ph.

Recalling an occurrence in January 2011, Gretchen admitted that her father, Mr. Barretto, pretended to suffer from heart attack and was confined in Medical City.

“That was just a ploy to get Claudine confined at the basement for her severe drug abuse and mental condition,” she said

“My brother, Mito, and his wife Connie, their son John, Marjorie and my parents planned and witnessed the confinement,” Gretchen added.

The actress then confessed that Claudine’s confinement for drug addiction was continued in a private clinic in Chana, Thailand.

Mr. Barretto, on the other hand, called for a family meeting in December 21, 2012 according to Gretchen.

“He said that he had just come from a meeting that morning with Ms. Eos Capistrano, a counselor from White Plains who said Claudine needed to be confined at the basement 12-18 months minimum. And that it was a choice of confining her at the basement or seeing her in the morgue at the rate she’s going. I remind him again that I am just repeating exactly what he said then. My father told us that his choice was to see Claudine in the basement and, of course, we all wanted the same thing.”

“I believe that it is up to my parents to own up to the truth to make this possible. It is not important now to point fingers as to who, what, why. We do not need to cover up anyone’s stories or put up a front to avoid shame. We are beyond that. We hear Claudine’s cry for help. Why can’t you?”

I have suffered long and hard in silence all through the verbal, physical, financial and, most painful of all, emotional abuse from my very own parents.

In April 2013, in spite of the attacks on my character from my mother (who publicly disowned me) and Gia Barretto-Reyes (who fabricated stories), I chose to deal with my pain privately.

Today, after the false statements made by my father, I feel I’ve earned the right to say my piece.

As to whether they are bad parents or they raised bad children—we all know that all children are born good and pure. How they turn out, whether good or bad, will reflect on the parents.

I recall from a very young age my mother saying when asked how many children they have, would say “I have 7 monsters” and maybe in her eyes, we were and still are.

It pains me to be depicted by our parents as the ‘bad children’ who are only out to ‘bully’ Claudine. Everyone knows NO ONE can bully Claudine! No one will dare.

We supposedly envy her success, which our father says, is ‘sibling rivalry.’ Why would we seek the destruction of our sister? What possible benefit does that give us?

We are happy with the lives we have and we are content and happy. But it certainly does not add to our happiness to see this family drama played out in public.

He also said that we should back off. “Tumahimik na kami.” But I realized that “puede akong manahimik pero hindi ako matatahimik”.

What JJ, Marjorie and I are prepared to do is to defend ourselves from repeated lies, from undeserved attacks, and from the idea that each of us can be sacrificed and that our lives can be ripped apart to promote the illusion that all is well with Claudine.

My father said that Raymart is promoting a lie in exposing Claudine’s history of drug abuse.

We are not willing participants in Claudine’s war against Raymart. But she forced us to speak out when she named us in her complaint-affidavit, weaving her tale of ‘abusive sisters.’

We submitted our affidavits, guided by one simple, unbending rule: to tell the truth. We swore to tell the truth and we told the truth.

And Raymart is telling the truth.

I would like to remind my father that in January 2011, he pretended to have suffered a heart attack and confined himself in Medical City and got my sister-in-law, Connie, to call Claudine at 2 a.m. so she could go to the hospital.

Again, I would like to remind my father of a family meeting that he called Connie, JJ, Marjorie, John and myself to attend at 3 p.m. on December 21, 2012 at Da-Ude Tea Place at the Fort.

He said that he had just come from a meeting that morning with Ms. Eos Capistrano, a counsellor from White Plains who said Claudine needed to be confined at the basement 12-18 months minimum.

And that it was a choice of confining her at the basement or seeing her in the morgue at the rate she’s going.

I remind him again that I am just repeating exactly what he said then. My father told us that his choice was to see Claudine in the basement and, of course, we all wanted the same thing.

Our family has, for the longest time, struggled with the problem of how to deal with Claudine’s problem.

Sadly, we now recognize that any effort to help her was doomed to fail because my parents are not capable of dealing with the truth. Another example of this is the drug test result they recently showed to the press.

We did not reject our parents. They rejected us.

Sadly, they mistake our concern as envy, and our refusal to support their lies as betrayal.

Whether they believe it or not, we care for Claudine.

However, the Claudine that we see and experience now is not the Claudine we used to know.

In my quiet moments, I am in desperate search of that Claudine.

The sweet Claudine, the loving Claudine, the caring Claudine.

Our hardworking and successful baby sister who brought so much pride and joy to the family.

In a perfect world when I dream everything and anything is possible, I’d like to believe that I can see the vibrant, loving, caring, generous and beautiful Claudine, come back.

I believe that it is up to my parents to own up to the truth to make this possible.

Actress Claudine Barretto showed the results of her six drug tests and requested to end all criticisms against her amid her legal battle with estranged husband Raymart Santiago and clash between her and her siblings.

Barretto posted a photo of the result of her drug test through her official Instagram account on Wednesday, which she took last Sunday, for her parents.

Barretto also shared her sentiment labeling the photo with a caption hoping that the drug test will end accusations made by Santiago and sister Gretchen Barretto that she is a drug user.

“Sana matapos na Paninira ng ibang taong.dis s for my Dad & Mom my Friends & My Fans who i call my Frends & esp for my Kids Sabina & Santino.sa lahat ng nagdadasal @ d humusga sakin Maraming salamat po.sa mga hinusgahan ako naintindihan ko po kayo.sana ngayon mabago na yung tingin nyo sakin.god bless u all,” she wrote.

Despite showing the results of the test in a press conference held Tuesday with Mr. Miguel Barretto, the family patriarch, Santiago stood by his accusations about his wife’s drug use.

“Sana tumigil na sila nang kakakalabas nang hindi totoo,” Santiago said. “Marami pa akong matinding ebidensya na pwedeng ilabas ngayon, pero hayaan na lang natin si judge ang makakita nito. Huwag na sa public.”

However, Gretchen also came out with a statement on Wednesday, confirming previous reports that Claudine was indeed confined in a hospital for drug use.

Asked about comparisons between her family and the Barrettos for being controversial, the outspoken matriarch of the Gutierrez family responded by saying the family of feuding sisters Gretchen, Marjorie and Claudine Barretto is “worse.”

“Ako, hindi ako inaway ng mga anak ko. Nagnakaw ng pera, nagnakaw ng mga alahas – hindi ako ganyan. At saka wala akong ninakaw naman talaga,” Rama said.

Rama admitted that she is shocked about the controversies hounding the beleaguered showbiz family.

Socialite actress Gretchen Barretto revealed that her father, Miguel Barretto, threatened to shoot her and two of her siblings when he supposedly learned of their plans to testify in court against their youngest sister Claudine.

Surrounded by reporters, Gretchen made the accusation as she spoke shortly before a hearing involving Claudine and husband Raymart Santiago at the Marikina Regional Trial Court on Thursday.

Along with another sibling, JJ, they gave their testimonies supporting Santiago’s allegations against their sister in the closed-door hearing.

“Nandito ako, may takot, pero haharapin ko ‘to dahil ito ang katotohanan,” said Gretchen. “At least nandito kayo. Pag may mangyari, alam ninyo.”

The actress’ testimony is in relation Santiago’s legal battle with Claudine, who accused of him “physical, sexual, psychological and economic” abuse supposedly dating back to 2002.

Married in church rites in March 2006, the former couple have two children — an adopted daughter, Sabina, 9; and a biological son, Santino, 6.

Santiago, on the other hand, accused his wife of domestic violence, having a history of drug abuse, and being mentally ill in response to Claudine’s accusations, which were detailed in an Anti-Violence against Women and Their Children (VAWC) case in August.

The actor’s statements were supported by accounts of Gretchen, along with two other Barretto siblings, Marjorie and JJ, in the same affidavit.

The hearing on Thursday was specifically on the consolidated cases of Claudine’s petition for a temporary protection order against her husband, and their custody battle over Sabina and Santino, according to Santiago’s legal counsel, Atty. Ruth Castello.

Expressing herself about the threat, Gretchen detailed her father’s alleged threat against her. The actress said the Barretto patriarch learned of her plan to appear in court from her eldest sibling, Mito.

“Sinabihan ng daddy ko ang kapatid kong lalaki, ang pinakamatanda, at ang pamangkin ko na si John, na pag mag-testify daw si JJ, at nalaman niyang mag-te-testify si JJ, sabi niya babarilin niya,” she said.

“At sinabi naman ng aking pamangkin na, ‘Tita Gretch, Tita Marj will testify.’ At sabi niya (Miguel Barretto), ‘I will kill them.’”

In a published statement in October, Gretchen detailed Claudine’s alleged mental illness and drug use, and how their family supposedly conspired to have the youngest of seven siblings hospitalized for treatment.

It was reported earlier that Miguel Barretto once said Gretchen and Marjorie to drop the Barretto surname if they will insist criticizing and “bullying” their younger sister.

Socialite actress Gretchen Barretto showed off in court Thursday to testify against her sister, former TV star Claudine, despite supposedly fearing for her life after allegedly being threatened by her father.

Heard at the Marikina Regional Trial Court, Gretchen’s testimony was in relation to the legal battle of Claudine and husband Raymart Santiago, who are both seeking the custody of their children.

The hearing on Thursday was specifically on the consolidated cases of Claudine’s petition for atemporary protection order against her husband, and their custody battle over Sabina and Santino, according to Santiago’s legal counsel, Atty. Ruth Castello.

“Na-summon na kami ng korte para magsalita,” Gretchen told reporters shortly before the hearing. “Mabuti na rin para masabi namin ang katotohanan. Gusto lang naman namin na lumabas ang katotohanan, at mabigyan ng hustisya si Raymart.”

Claudine’s petition for a protection order stems from her allegations of “physical, sexual, psychological and economic” against Santiago, which the actress detailed in an Anti-Violence against Women and Their Children (VAWC) case she filed against him in August. These alleged abuses, Claudine said, date back to 2002.

“Hindi niya naman kami kailangan i-convince dahil alam namin ang katotohanan. So kusa namin talagang gustong ilabas nga ang katotohanan. ‘Yung mga alegasyon kay Raymart, mali. Hindi makatarungan. ‘Yun lang naman ang gusto namin, to correct it,” she continued referring to Santiago.

“So nagdadasal ako na sana makatulong ito sa lahat, hindi lang para kay Raymart, pero para kay Claudine, para mabigay kay Claudine ‘yung mga kailangan niya, ‘yung kanyang… Sana mapagamot siya, sana mapabuti na buhay niya, sana maging safe na ‘yung mga anak niya. ‘Yun lang naman ‘yung gusto natin,” she said.

Prior to appearing in court, Gretchen said her father, Miguel, threatened her as well as JJ and Marjorie in relation to the hearing. The actress accused the Barretto patriarch of threatening to shoot them should they testify against Claudine, who is the youngest of seven siblings.

“Hindi ko alam [kung handa akong makita ang mga magulang ko], hindi ko naisip ‘yon,” Gretchen said. “Isa lang ang iniisip ko — na mabigyang linaw ang dapat. ‘Yun ang gusto ko para sa lahat, para sa pamilya Santiago, para sa aming magkakapatid din.

“Alam mo, matapang naming hinaharap ito, ang katotohanan. Ang tatay ko, sabi niya sa kapatid kong si Mito at sa pamangkin ko na si John Barretto… Sabi ng tatay ko, na kapag nag-witness si JJ, si Marjorie at ako, babarilin daw niya kami. So nandito ako, may takot, pero haharapin ko ‘to dahil ito ang katotohanan.”

For Claudine’s sake

Surrounded by reporters, Gretchen emphasized she only testified against Claudine out of love and concern, saying she is actively seeking ways to get her treatment for her alleged condition.

“It was very emotional for me, dahil siyempre babalikan mo lahat ng mga naging nightmare sa buhay namin. Pero kinakailangan gawin. I’m hoping that later on, when Claudine is in a better state, she will be thankful,” said Gretchen.

Asked to confirm whether she said in the court room that Claudine should be admitted to a rehabilitation center, Gretchen said, “Nasabi ko sa korte ‘yon.”

“‘Yun ang wish ko, ‘yun ang pinagdadasal namin, na she will get the treatment that she needs para maayos naman ang buhay niya, para maging safe niya, para maging safe ang mga tao sa paligid niyo, and most especially ‘yung mga anak niya,” she said.

Gretchen refused to detail her recommendations regarding the treatment, but offered that Claudine’s alleged last rehab was at a “first-class” facility.

“I don’t know kung sino ang pwede naming kausapin, kung saan siya dapat. Pero iyon ang hinihingi namin sa korte,” she said.

‘We want to save her’

Along with another sibling, JJ, the actress was quick with an answer when asked if she still loves her younger sister, with whom she has had several publicized spats separate from this legal case involving Santiago.

“I love her, with all my heart. Dahil kung hindi ko siya mahal, wala ako rito [at] hindi ko ipaglalaban ito, ‘yung tama,” Gretchen said. “Ayokong magising siya, napakarsel niya ‘yung asawa niyang nagmahal sa kanya for a very long time and who took take care of her, and who was a very good husband to her.”

Concerning the rehabilitation facility in 2011, Gretchen also revealed that her younger sister repeatedly told her that Santiago had been an unfailing presence despite his wife’s condition then.

“I know that for sure because malapit kami ni Claudine. ‘Yun ang parati niyang kinikwento sa ‘kin,” she said. “Nung lumabas siya ng rehab nung Febraury 2011, parati niyang sinasabi, paulit-ulit na, ‘Buti nalang hindi ako iniwan ni Raymart. He was very patient. Mahal niya ako, mahal ko siya.’”

Claudine, according to Gretchen, was also thankful to her family at the time for attending to her condition. “Meron ngang sulat pang binigay sa akin si Claudine na hopefully soon, pwede kong mailabas ‘yon, [saying] that she was very grateful that we put her in rehab, that we took care of her, that we’re patient.”

“So I’m hoping that after lahat ng mga gulo na nangyayari, ma-realize niya na ang ginawa naming mga magkakapatid is to save her.”

Claudine did not attend the hearing on Thursday, as she was not required by the court, according to Castello.

The actress was represented by Atty. Ivy Cabatingan, an associate of Claudine’s lawyer in the TPO case, Atty. Ferdinand Topacio.

Asked if she would have preferred her youngest sister to be present as she gave her testimony, Gretchen said, “Mas gusto ko nandito si Claudine, dahil gusto kong malaman niya kung gaano ko siya kamahal, at kung bakit ko ‘to ginagawa.”

It was reported earlier that Miguel Barretto once said Gretchen and Marjorie to drop the Barretto surname if they will insist criticizing and “bullying” their younger sister.

The feud involving the Barretto clan went public in April, when their mother, Inday, released a statement saying she has disowned Gretchen in favor of Claudine.

Actress Claudine Barretto is willing forgive estranged husband Raymart Santiago for the new year, her camp revealed.

The couple has faced a lot of controversies in the past year. However, according to the actress’ legal counsel, Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, Barretto is not closing doors on a possible reconciliation.

“She’s a very forgiving person, pero in time. We are never closing a door for a settlement. Sabi nga sa bibliya, lahat ay may panahon,” he said.

In August, the 34-year-old actress filed for a permanent protection order (PPO) against Santiago, which arises from the supposed “physical, sexual, psychological and economic” abuse she had endured from her husband.

Santiago, in his counter-affidavit, accused his wife of domestic violence, stemming from a history of drug abuse and mental illness.

The actor answered Barreto’s accusations in his 30-page counter affidavit making clear every point including information disclosed by Barretto’s three older siblings, Gretchen, Marjorie and JJ, against their younger sister.

Since then, other members of the Barretto family have joined the word war, namely Gretchen who testified in court against her sister despite alleged threats from their father.

Topacio revealed that Barretto matriarch Inday took offense to Gretchen’s testimonies, online and in court, and is considering filing a libel case against her estranged daughter.

“Shes feels offended by what she feels are untruths being peddled by Miss Gretchen,” he said.

Gretchen has called her mother “evil” online and threatened to reveal a “molestation” incident involving her father, Miguel, as well as a case of jewelry theft. Inday labeled the accusations as “smear campaign” and “character assassination.”

“We will be taking legal steps, including her parents. There comes a time when enough is enough,” Topacio said.

The lawyer said that his camp will further discuss matters during the family’s next get-together.

“She’s talking to us lawyers about it. Bukas siguro magkakaroon ng opportunity in a social context na pag-usapan ‘yung mga possible legal steps against Ms. Gretchen,” he added.

The former couple, married in March 2006, has two children — 9-year-old adopted daughter Sabina and a 6-year-old biological son Santino.
